May Hands, born 1990 in Brighton, UK, graduated from Camberwell College of Arts, London in 2013 with a BA in Fine Art/Painting. She fast arose interest in the art world with object-oriented paintings of contrasting colours and transparencies. For her works May Hands employs both conventional and unconventional materials that reflect our modern visual and material environment. A reoccuring element are the plastic bags and packagings of mass luxury fashion brands, trophies of emotionalized rituals of consumption. As well as every day objects. May Hands will have her first solo exhibition with T293, Rome in 2015. Past exhibitions include solo shows: ‘Objects’ at Camberwell College of Art Library, London, 2012 and ‘Work Programme 23’ at Community Arts Centre, Brighton, 2013. She has been included in several group exhibitions, including most recently ‘May Hands / Emanuel Röhss’ at T293, Naples 2014 and ‘More or Less’ at Peckham Springs Gallery, London

May Hands, 1990 in Brighton, UK, geboren, hat 2013 ihr Studium der Bildende Künste/Malerei am Camberwell College of Arts abgeschlossen. Mit ihren objekt-orientierten Malereien aus kontrastierenden Farben und transparenten Plastikfolien hat sie schnell das Interesse der Kunstwelt auf sich gezogen. Für ihre Arbeiten verwendet sie konventionelle wie unkonventionelle Materialien, die als Reflektion der visuelle Umgebung unserer modernen Welt zu verstehen sind. Ein wiederkehrendes Element in ihren Arbeiten sind neben Alltagsgegenständen die Verpackungsmaterialen und Tüten großer Luxusmarken als Trophäen der emotionalisierten Rituale modernen Konsums. May Hands wird 2015 mit ihrer ersten Einzelausstellung in Rom in der Gallerie T293 vertreten sein. Bisher waren ihre Arbeiten u.a. zu sehen in: ‘Objects’ am Camberwell College of Art Library, London, 2012 und ‘Work Programme 23’ im Community Arts Centre, Brighton, 2013, sowie den Gruppenausstellungen: ‘May Hands / Emanuel Röhss’ in der Galerie T293, Neapel 2014 und ‘More or Less’ at Peckham Springs Gallery, London
